How to Manage and Control High Blood Pressure Naturally?

These days, high blood pressure is a very common heart problem that has affected both old as well as young people. Unhealthy eating habits, lack of physical activities and poor lifestyle are the leading factors responsible for this condition. In this article we will discuss some dietary guidelines and home remedies for patients suffering from high blood pressure.

Diet plays a crucial role in managing and controlling high blood pressure. A right diet can drastically help in lowering your blood pressure. Below are some useful dietary guidelines for patient suffering from hypertension.

1. Restrict animal protein intake. Meat, chicken, eggs and milk should also be used in restricted quantities. Vegetables and fruits should be preferred.

2. Restrict fat energy to 10-15%. Decrease fat energy sources such as ghee, butter, fish oils, groundnut oil, mustard oil, coconut oil and safflower oil in your diet. The total intake per day should be decreased to 5-10 grams. Prepare almost boiled vegetables without oils so that the major source of energy is carbohydrates with a fibrous diet.

3. Carbohydrates should be the main source of energy. Your diet should include lemon, amla, apple, papaya, orange, watermelon, tomato and green vegetables. Apple has the tendency to increase frequency of urine, thus lowering blood pressure. Fresh fruits should be preferred over fresh juice of those fruits so that fiber is included in your diet.

4. Restrict salt intake to 1-2 gm. Also avoid canned vegetables, fruits and their juices. Salty biscuits, mayonnaise preparations and other salad dressing should be strictly prohibited. High sodium vegetables as spinach, white turnips, mustard green, carrots and beetroots should be limited. Cereals such as cornflakes and quick-cooking oats are salty preparations too. Thin bread made from wheat flour should be preferred over bread and bread rolls.

5. Strictly prohibit smoking and alcohol.

Along with precautions and home remedies, medication has to be taken after consulting a doctor. Try to live a stress free life. Do shavasan frequently. Other light exercises that do not stress the heart must be practiced within limits.

In case of severely hypertensive patients, blood pressure check-up should be done daily; in fact, it should be twice or thrice a day. Medicines have to be strictly taken to normalize blood pressure. Control of high blood pressure has been shown to reduce the incidence of stroke, heart attack and other complications such as heart failure, renal failure and myocardial infarction.

How to Keep Yourself More Active and Healthier

Many people find it very hard to start and stick to an exercise program. For some people to think of doing half an hour brisk walk, or the practicalities of finding the time, is just too difficult. If this is the case, then he must consider accumulating this duration by shorter bouts of more frequent activity. Small steps to try:

• Using the stairs rather than lift at work or in the shopping center.
• Parking the car/motorcycle farthest away from the entrance of the supermarket and not using the remote control to change TV channels.
• Avoiding the too easy modern day gadgets whenever/wherever possible and trying to do work pending one’s energy and thereby getting some physical activity.

Fitness has been defined in relation to a concept called physical work capacity. This is related to how much work the body can do. Fitness can be understood in relation to a number of components such as endurance, flexibility, strength and power. One needs to be fit to play many popular sports such as football, hockey, squash, and tennis.

If a person wants to be fit, he normally needs to follow a structured training program. One of the key variables in achieving a high level of fitness is the intensity of the exercise program. Of one wants to very fit then one needs to exercise at a moderate or even higher intensity.

Common examples of fitness training include circuits, running and weight training. In achieving one’s fitness goals through these programs most people will also become healthier. However, if one doesn’t need to be fit but just healthy then one doesn’t have to exercise as hard.

If a person wants to reduce his risk of suffering from coronary heart disease, obesity or other health problems then research indicates that he should be physically active. To achieve these health benefits it does not require the same intensity of exercise training that is required to become fit. One can simply build physical activity into one’s daily living through, for example, brisk walking or cycling.

Engage yourself in some form of physical activity or sport you find easy and interesting and you will get yourself more active and healthier than ever.

Health Benefits of Aquatic Exercises, Water Aerobics

We all know that exercise such as running, jogging and biking has been found to reduce cholesterol and high BP and prevent heart disease. But this article emphasizes on the benefits of water aerobics. Aquatic exercise is becoming increasingly popular as water has been found to be ideal for muscle toning, is soothing and increasing stamina, strength, flexibility and endurance.

It is well known that over body weight is much less in water. Hence, when one stands in water at chest level his body is near weightless. The natural buoyancy of the water supports the body and relieves the stress on joints, tendons and ligaments. Water’s gentle support enables easy and effortless movements. Many people with arthritis, old age problems and post-operative recuperation, walk several times up and down the pool – usually such pools are 4 feet deep only at any point or all points or through its length and breadth. Such shallow pools are zones of wonderful therapeutic cure. In winter the swimming pool is heated and in summer it is kept coop. Many patients come to recover from injuries and after surgery also.

In water aerobics one needs to be in a swimming costume, and where required, to do the exercises for the head, eyes and mouth, shoulder, inner and outer arm, thighs, legs, ankle, feet and fingers of the hand and toes, etc. In short, the exercises cover every part of the body from head to toe. Breathing exercises are also included. While land exercises aggravate orthopedic problems water exercise can be done without undue stress and muscle weakness. The water’s qualities are unique. Its elasticity adjusts to variations in force or speed of movement at different joint angles, thus providing a constantly changing resistance.

The fascinating and inviting qualities of water make the exercise smoother and more relaxing than land exercise. In water aquatics the combination of routine is limitless and there is something for everyone, even a non-swimmer. Just standing neck deep in water stimulates circulation; there is soothing effect on muscles; the heart in fact recovers more quickly from exertion because it is not working against the force of gravity. The water exercise includes 15 minutes of warming up and ends with 15 minutes of cooling down with a half hour of jogging and exercise in between. Before undertaking any form of exercise one has to consult a doctor, and exercise intensity can be increased only gradually. In India too, water exercise needs to be popularized to promote muscle toning and other benefits.

Negative Calorie Diet for Weight Loss - An Unbiased Review

Negative calorie diet has been very popular for the last few years. This is due to its efficiency in losing weight in a healthy way. Here we will discuss all the basics of negative calorie diet and how it helps in weight loss. Negative calorie diet consists of eating certain food items which possess negative calorie effects and help us lose weight very rapidly. Our body has to expend energy in order to digest and absorb foods, in fact, 10% of the daily caloric intake is used to process foods in our body. Negative calorie foods take up more caloric energy to digest then the calories that are in them. Below you will know how negative calorie diet will help you in melting your extra body fat.

How Does the Negative Calorie Diet work?

Negative Calorie diet works on the principle that our body has to burn energy in order to digest certain foods. As a consequence, our body is actually burning fat. Negative calorie foods contain a surplus of vitamins and minerals which can speed up enzyme production. This increase in the quantity of enzyme production is sufficient to break down not only its own calories, but possible additional calories present in the digestion system. I highly recommend you to get your own copy of Negative Calorie Diet and join the thousands who are already losing weight with Negative Calorie Diet.

Let’s have a look on an example – an orange nearly contain 50 calories and take a certain amount of energy from our body to process all of the nutrients and vitamins within the orange. In doing so, we would burn more than 50 calories. However this is also highly dependent on the speed of our metabolism. The Negative Calorie Diet claims that after eating certain negative calorie foods, our body is left with a net calorie results which is a negative calorie deduction.

Remember, negative calorie foods are eaten in their natural state, if you cook, add butter, or other things to them, it changes the caloric makeup of the food. In addition, negative calorie diet plan is very restrictive to just fruits and vegetables. This would be very hard to stick to if you were not a committed vegetarian. But overall, it is the healthiest way to lose weight. So, don’t wait. Get the most popular and bestselling book on ‘Negative calorie diet’ that is already trusted by thousands of people. How Can I Lose Weight without Dieting and Following a Strict Diet Plan?

When you think of losing weight, the first thing that comes in mind is a strict diet plan and going to gym and doing workouts. But this is completely a misconception. Here, in this article you will find the common myths and facts on weight loss. You will also find a proven and most trusted way to weight loss in a healthy way.

First we start with what common people think of when planning for weight loss. They are said by many diet programs and dietitians to restrict their diet and eat only a prescribed list of food items. But the fact is when they follow a strict diet plan, it becomes very hard to follow it for long time. And as a result they again began to gain weight as soon as they do not follow the guidelines.

So the key point to remember is that a true weight loss plan does not have to be complicated. In fact, the simpler the weight loss programs the better the results will be. The more restrictive the diet plan, the more likely it will fail you in achieving your weight loss goal.

The second common myth among people is that they will lose significant amounts of muscle if they don’t eat every two to three hours. But the fact is totally different. They will not lose muscle if they miss a meal. In fact, they won’t even lose muscle if they miss an entire day of meals. The biggest thing that determines how much muscle they have is their genetics and their workouts. As long as they are following a well designed workout plan they will not lose any muscle while dieting.

We now come to your question – How can I lose weight without following a strict diet plan? Read below and find the answer.

How to Give Relief to Restless and Painful Legs

Our legs are an important part of our body as they help in supporting the overall body weight. So it is very important to take proper care of our legs. This article will discuss how to massage lower legs, upper legs and knees. Massage helps the skin to glow naturally and make bones strong and healthy.

Steps to massage lower legs and knees -

Warm a little oil in your hands.

1. With one hand behind the other, smooth the oil on to the front of the leg, starting at the top of the foot and working up to the knee. This movement distributes the oil and soothes and relaxes the whole area.

2. Rub across the front of the leg using both hands to create frictions. This increases the blood circulation to the area and reduces aches and pains.

3. Lift the leg up so the knee is bent. Squeeze and relax rhythmically down the muscles of the calf from knee to ankle. Repeat several times. Put the leg down.

4. Work around the kneecap in little circular motions with both hands. Be careful not to use too much pressure.

5. Now using your thumbs gently slide them around each side of the kneecap.

6. Stretch out your thumbs from your fingers to create an arch. Sweep over the whole knee using alternate hands several times. Now wrap up the lower leg and proceed to the thigh.

Steps to massage upper legs -

1. Apply oil as for the lower leg.

2. Glide up the leg from knee to groin, using one hand behind the other. This movement should be fairly slow and rhythmical. Make sure your movements cover the whole of the thigh area. Repeat four to five times.

3. Strokes the upper inner thigh diagonally from knee to groin hand over hand. Repeat four or five times.

4. Squeeze and release rhythmically first along the inner thigh from knee to groin, then along the outer thigh.

5. Using your knuckles rake quickly up from the knee to the groin, taking in the whole thigh area. This is a friction movement and increases the surface blood circulation. You will notice the skin colors quite quickly and feels warmer to the touch.

6. Uncover the lower leg, then effleurage the whole leg from foot to groin.

7. Finish off by enclosing the foot in your hands a couple of times. Cover the leg then repeat all the movements on the other one.

Natural Remedy for Childhood Ailments

Are you looking for natural remedies for childhood ailments? This article discusses how aromatherapy can be helpful in treating common ailments like asthma, tummy ache, eczema, sore throat and nose bleeds. Just read this article and find effective natural remedies for these childhood ailments.

1. Asthma

If you child suffers from asthma, aromatherapy can help in several ways. Add four drops of benzoin and four drops of rosemary oil to his or her daily bath.

Make massage oil using three drops of benzoin and three drops of lavender oil. Rub it into the chest at regular intervals daily. Also try using a vaporizer in the child’s bedroom at night with benzoin, pine and rosemary oils (or, any one of them)

2. Tummy ache

Gentle massage is soothing on its own, but is even more beneficial with the help of aromatherapy.

Add two drops of camomile, two of fennel and two of peppermint oil to 4 fl oz (100 ml) of carrier oil. Gently rub this into your child’s tummy, using soothing massage strokes. Also, try adding the above oils to a warm bath – the heat helps pain and there is no need for carrier oil.

3. Eczema

This is a very common childhood complaint and aromatherapy is a very effective way of helping it.

Dry eczema - Add six drops of geranium oil to 4 fl oz (100 ml) of avocado oil and apply to the affected areas several times daily. You can also add six drops of geranium oil to your child’s daily bath.

Weeping eczema - Add six drops of bergamot oil to 4 fl oz (100 ml) of avocado oil and apply to the affected areas several times daily. You can also add six drops of bergamot oil to your child’s daily bath.

4. Sore throat

Either of the following remedies helps soothe irritation or you can use both together if the patient does not object. Obviously very young children can’t gargle, so use the oil instead.

To make a mouthwash/gargle, add two drops of lemon, two drops of eucalyptus and two drops of lavender oil to a cup of warm water.

Alternatively, you can add the above oils to 4 fl oz (100 ml) of carrier oil and rub the mixture into the throat and chest then up into the glands behind the ears, at regular intervals.

5. Nose bleeds

While your child is sitting forward, pinching his or her nostrils together, make up the following cold compress.

Soak a flannel in 1 pint (600 ml) of very cold water to which you have added six drops of frankincense oil. Fold it in half and place over the bridge of the nose. Bleeding usually stops very quickly.

Child Obesity and Weight Loss Tips

Child obesity is very alarming in most of the developed countries. But slowly it is also becoming a part of the entire world. To prevent child obesity a change in lifestyle is required. Here in this article you will find some useful weight loss tips to combat child obesity.

Most of the parents know that children who eat breakfast do better academically and have fewer behavior struggles in school. But children however think and feel that skipping breakfast will help them lose weight or maintain an attractive weight. Just the opposite is true! Children who don’t eat breakfast tend to snack more, and they eat lunches and dinners that are higher in calories. It is important to make breakfast a priority, say health experts. Whatever be the excuse, kids need to eat breakfast. Skipping breakfast is a big problem. A lot schools give mid-morning snacks because children skip breakfast. It helps their attention span.

There are plenty of options for a nourishing and low fat breakfast that can be made in spite of a tight schedule. Ideally, the first meal of the day should provide almost one third of the nutrients the child needs until bed time. Protein, a carbohydrate and a fruit must be included as a rule. Scrambled eggs, cheese, yogurt, drinks, peanut butter are all favorite protein foods among children.

Cereal is the obvious choice for carbohydrates. Children will benefit from a brand that has 10 grams or less of sugar and 2 or more grams of dietary fiber per serving. Fiber provides the “full” feeling, so the child does not feel hungry soon. Instant oatmeal or a cold oat or whole wheat cereal would be a good option.

Children can be given toasted frozen waffles with pureed fruit or light syrup or a toasted English muffin. It will be hard for the children to get the recommended two to four serving of fruit a day if they don’t get a serving of fruit for breakfast. Something as simple as banana slices over a bowl of cereal or sliced strawberries in yoghurt can be prepared.

Physical activity is another important aspect to fight child obesity. Encourage your child to take part in outdoor sports. This will boost up the metabolism to burn more calories.

How to Flatten your Stomach in a Healthier Way?

Everyone wants to have flat stomach to look attractive but there are many health benefits of having flat stomach. This article emphasize on how to flatten your stomach in a healthier way.

Strong and well-toned abdominal muscles are important because they support and protect some of the most vital organs and increase their efficiency. Your abdominal pelvic cavity contains the liver, gall bladder, stomach intestines, pancreas, spleen, bladder and kidneys. Strong abdominal muscles support the membranes that keep these organs in place and enable them to function properly.

By giving proper support to the lower spine, firm abdominal muscles help avoid or eliminate lowest back pain. They can help prevent or clear up some of the complications of constipation.

You can build and maintain a firm and flat stomach by adding a few abdomen strengthening exercises to your daily routine. These exercises are not intended as substitutes for but as supplements to diets or other exercises designed to reduce fat.

As with any exercise program you need a fitness expert guide. The exact amount of exercising you have to begin with depends on your age and physical condition. You must start slowly. These exercises should be approached gradually as some are simple and some rather difficult. Half the exercise can be tried with one repeat at first and then the other half repeated once. If there is a feeling of stiffness or soreness the next day, it means ‘too much’ was done. Gradually, you must reduce the exercises in one day’s session and increase the repeats to a level that feels comfortable. Twelve repeats of eight exercises is quiet a good score. If you can’t do them all, you can do those you can and need not worry about the rest. If a particular exercise seems too difficult or causes pain, stiffness or soreness it must be left out. After several months of conditioning, you must see whether you can add more exercise without strain; if not, it must be left out again.

Exercises must be done daily. Although any time that is convenient is fine, you are less apt to become a dropout if you do exercises first thing in the morning. Before you begin you must measure your girth at the morning. Before you begin you must measure your girth at the level of your navel with your stomach relaxed. Then you must pull your stomach in as far as you can and measure it again. Both the measurements must be recorded. This must be done once a month on the same date and the recording noted. You will notice improved abdominal strength in a few weeks, but visible improvement may not be seen for a month or more. You must keep at it.

Apart from regular exercise session, you need a diet that can support your efforts in getting a flat stomach. ‘Strip that Fat’ is one of the most efficient diet programs for weight loss. It comes with a diet book, diet generator and tons of bonuses.

The Most Efficient Workout Program for Weight Loss

A right combination of regular exercise and diet plan is the only way to fight against obesity and overweight. Exercise must be made a daily habit. Regular, moderate physical exercise is good for the body, mind and spirit. It reduces the possibility of coronary disease, lowers blood pressure, raises the good HDL cholesterol, helps to control weight and cuts the risk of diabetes. It helps protect against stroke, osteoporosis, and certain types of cancer. And many people regularly turn to exercise to reduce stress. These are some compelling reasons to exercise every day.

Exercise is one of the most positive habits one will ever develop. It helps to maintain the metabolic momentum. This can be understood with a simple example. Your metabolism is like a spinning top. Once you twist the top it starts spinning at maximum velocity. But not long after our finger leaves contact with the top, it starts slowing down and eventually the revolutions decrease and the top starts to wobble. One has to spin it again before it loses all its momentum and topples over. By spinning it more frequently, the average revolutions per minute stay higher and the top never slows to a wobble.

Our metabolism works the same way. Exercise ‘spins’ our metabolism rate. Many factors affect metabolism but nothing else cranks up and maintains your metabolic speed like frequent exercise of sufficient intensity.

To make exercise a habit you have to give a specific time slot. There is no magic number for how long it takes habits to take hold. But it can happen as quickly as six to eight weeks. Once you start feeling the benefits of exercise, it will become your lifestyle. There should be enough motivation, determination and interest on the part of the person to make exercise a routine, daily habit. Once this happens ‘fitness’ comes very easily.

The most important aspect to achieve weight loss goal is to choose the right kind of workout program. Otherwise your effort will be fruitless. Turbulence training workout program is one of the most popular and efficient workout system designed by Craig Ballantyne. This workout system comes in an internet package and includes a 128 page eBook and a one hour mp3 that details fat loss workouts and the philosophy of the program. How to Lose Inches of Fat Fast?

The most efficient way to lose inches of fat depends on decreasing energy input below energy expenditure. For this purpose most diets are designed to contain large quantities of ‘bulk’ which in general are made up of non-nutritive cellulose substances. This bulk distends the stomach and thereby partially appeases the hunger.

Your body is made up of muscle and fat. You must have a certain percentage of fat in order to survive. Of course, most of you have that percentage plus quite a few percentage points more.

What happens when you starve? First your body starts to use your fat stores and muscle stores for energy because you are not bringing in enough food to support life. Next, your body’s metabolism or the rate at which it burns calories begins to slow. Your body figures that it is not getting enough food to support life, so it better to start conserving what it has stored away so that it can survive.

Your body will conserve your fat and burn your muscle for the energy it needs. Muscle takes energy to preserve your body. If it can get rid of some of that muscle then it can conserve more energy. Second, your body thinks it does not need the excess muscle anyway because it is never put under a whole lot of resistance on stress.

You have eaten like a bird and done a ton of cardiovascular exercises and lost 10 pounds. But what have you done? You have lost (most likely) about 2 pounds of fat and 8 pounds of lean muscle. That is a horrible 10 pounds of weight loss. By losing muscle your metabolism is slower. Your body burns fewer calories. Then if you go back to a normal way of eating (instead of like a bird), you will get fatter faster!

So what should your real goal be? To lose the inches. Fat takes up four times more space than muscle. So how can you lose the inches? A combination of weight training with cardiovascular training gives best results. You must eat at least six small meals a day.

The best way to lose inches of fat without starving yourself is to follow a calorie shifting diet plan. ‘Fat Loss 4 Idiots’ is based on the revolutionary principle of Calorie Shifting. It is the highly recommended and most efficient diet plan to lose weight in a healthy manner. To read the real unbiased review on ‘Fat Loss 4 Idiots’.
